Two old women in the village are always claiming to be the best at lilting. At length they choose an unfortunate man to be the judge between them. Upon hearing his verdict, the loser flies at him and knocks him out cold. When he comes to, she demands to know why he has chosen the other woman, and the answer reveals that the key to being a good lilter is the amount of ‘doodle-ees’ that the singer invests.

Notes

This performance includes a short snatch of The Shaskeen Reel, which Joe explains was the tune the women chose as their competition piece.
