Presumably Joe and Jim have been looking at another text for this song. For obvious reasons, Joe&#8217;s text is unlikely to have appeared in print anywhere. There are additional verses to this song in oral circulation, and they only get worse; see CB\u00c9 160: 451-2 and CB\u00c9 1134:269 for two additional versions collected in the Carna district. Cathy Ryan has recorded a less racy version; her text can be found online.<\/p>\n<p class=\"n\u00f3ta-bun-leathanaigh\">2. The word bromach\u00e1n is defined by Tom\u00e1s \u00d3 M\u00e1ille as &#8216;duine m\u00f3r garbh nach bhfuil aon chur ar a shon f\u00e9in ann&#8217; (<i class=\"treaslitri\u00fa\">a big rough man who can do nothing for himself<\/i>). Quoting from this song, \u00d3 M\u00e1ille reports that it is a said of a person who is unsuccessful in life, &#8216;go dt\u00e1inig s\u00e9 abhaile ina bhromach\u00e1n bliana&#8217; (An B\u00e9al Beo, 2002 edition prepared by Ruair\u00ed \u00d3 hUiginn, p. 221.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"n\u00f3ta-bun-leathanaigh\">3. The starchy water in which the potatoes were after being boiled.<\/p>\n<p class=\"n\u00f3ta-bun-leathanaigh\">4. Joe translates <i class=\"cor-cainte-teangan-eile\">poll an phl\u00e9ar\u00e1ca<\/i> for Jim Cowdery as the hole in the hearth but this translation is dubious. <i class=\"cor-cainte-teangan-eile\">Poll<\/i> does indeed mean hole but <i class=\"cor-cainte-teangan-eile\">pl\u00e9ar\u00e1ca<\/i> means revelry.
