He wants that song, <cite class=\"amhr\u00e1n\">Curacha\u00ed na Tr\u00e1 B\u00e1ine<\/cite>. The Tr\u00e1 Bh\u00e1in<sup class=\"tagairt-n\u00f3ta-bun-leathanaigh\">1<\/sup>, it&#8217;s a place I love anyway, and I&#8217;m glad to sing it for him. Tr\u00e1 Bh\u00e1in is a townland on the eastern side of Garumna Island in Conamara. A commemorative stone containing a verse of this song now stands near the quay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"n\u00f3ta-bun-leathanaigh\">2. Joe sang this song as an encore at the request of Gerry Shannon, from Doolin in Co. Clare, who was a member of the audience at this concert and who provided this recording of it. Joe&#8217;s usual choice for an encore would have been a song that would allow the audience to join in. See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joeheaney.org\/ga\/concert-in-san-francisco-1983\/\">a video<\/a> of the entire concert.<\/p>\n<p><cite class=\"amhr\u00e1n\">Curacha\u00ed na Tr\u00e1 B\u00e1ine<\/cite> (also known as <cite class=\"amhr\u00e1n\">Amhr\u00e1n na Tr\u00e1 B\u00e1ine<\/cite> or <cite class=\"amhr\u00e1n\">Amhr\u00e1n a Bh\u00e1<\/cite>) occurs on a number of Joe&#8217;s commercial recordings, and it was one of the best-known of the big Conamara songs in the 1970s and thereafter. Joe sang a number of additional verses to this song (included here in square brackets), and was inclined to swap the order of verses around from performance to performance; see discography.<\/p>\n<p>During <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joeheaney.org\/ga\/vernam-hull-lecture-8th-february-1975\/\">a concert in 1975<\/a> that stood as that year\u2019s Vernam Hull Lecture, he gave a more detailed account of the song&#8217;s composition:<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;She came over to Boston after her three brothers was sunk coming in a little curragh from Galway in to Tr\u00e1 Bh\u00e1in. They lost their lives. And she had nobody left. She left her little home in the Tr\u00e1 Bh\u00e1in, which is near Cuig\u00e9al, Conamara, and she came to South Boston. Now, at that time, South Boston was South Boston.
