M\u00ed\u010be\u00e1l \u00d3&nbsp;Lo\u010blainn<\/p>\n<h3>Joe Heaney one hundred years on and the Irish singing tradition in Carna<\/h3>\n<p>This item is one of two (the other being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joeheaney.org\/ga\/caoineadh-na-dtri-muire-muintir-joe-einniu\/\">this recording of <cite class=\"amhr\u00e1n\">Caoineadh na dTr\u00ed Muire<\/cite><\/a>) which were added to the Cartlanna on 1st October 2019; one hundred years to the day after Joe \u00c9inni\u00fa\u2019s birth.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate this unique occasion, we felt it important to look forward rather than back and to focus on the present-day vitality of the native tradition from which Joe emerged. In particular, we wanted to show that this tradition is still very much alive and is being transmitted to, and embraced by, young people in Carna and Iorras Aithneach. Joe\u2019s family were very supportive and agreed to contribute songs to two new video recordings. These were then combined with archival footage of Joe himself to illustrate a continuity that currently spans four generations.<\/p>\n<h3>\u2018Mise m\u00e9 h\u00e9in\u2019 a d\u00fairt Connla<\/h3>\n<p>In contrast to the solemnity of <cite class=\"amhr\u00e1n\">Caoineadh na dTr\u00ed Muire<\/cite>, <cite class=\"amhr\u00e1n\">Connla<\/cite> is irreverant and light-hearted.
