The sense of this line is unclear, likely owing to the vicissitudes of oral transmission. Breand\u00e1n \u00d3 Buachalla&#8217;s edition of the poem gives the line as <i class=\"cor-cainte-teangan-eile\">th\u00fa bheith s\u00ednte ar leacaibh lom<\/i> (you being stretched out on bare stones).<\/p>\n<p class=\"n\u00f3ta-bun-leathanaigh\">2. There&#8217;s some uncertainty regarding the species referred to here as an <i class=\"cor-cainte-teangan-eile\">t&#8209;\u00e9in\u00edn glas<\/i> (literally, &#8216;the little grey bird&#8217;, although the <i class=\"cor-cainte-teangan-eile\">&#8209;\u00edn<\/i> suffix is frequently used to convey fondness or affection, with no reference at all to size). \u00d3 Buachalla&#8217;s edition gives <i class=\"cor-cainte-teangan-eile\">an chorr ghlas<\/i> , which is the heron.<\/p>\n<p>An Buinne\u00e1n Bu\u00ed includes other verses that Joe did not record on this occasion. One of them appears on two of his commercial recordings however: \u00d3 Mo Dh\u00fachas and N\u00e1r Fhagha M\u00e9 B\u00e1s Cho\u00edche. Joe told Ennis that he learned the song from his next door neighbour, Se\u00e1n Choilm Mac Donnchadha.<\/p>\n<p>For additional verses and some discussion, see an tAth.
